Weekly Newsletter Tracker: Know Which Emails Actually Worked, Week After Week
You send the newsletter. You check the number. You feel something about it, good or bad, and then you close the tab.
By next Tuesday you can't remember what last week's open rate was. You can't remember which subject line pulled. You can't remember whether that Thursday send was the one that flopped or the one that sold three things.
That is not a discipline problem. You just don't have anywhere to put the numbers.
This weekly newsletter tracker is where they go. Fifty-two weeks, one row each, every rate calculated for you.
🔥 Why You'll Love It
Most email tracking spreadsheets give you a column for "subject line" and call it a day. This one is built the way you actually work.
- Your topic and your subject line get separate columns, because they're separate jobs
- Preview text has its own field, and it's optional
- Weeks are labeled by ISO week number, so a week is always the same week
- Two settings cells rebuild every date in the sheet
- Resends get a full tracking block, not an afterthought
- Every rate calculates itself, so you type the raw numbers and read the answers
📅 Set Two Cells, Get a Year
You tell it your start date and which day you send. That's the whole setup.
Every week start, week end, send date, and ISO week number builds itself from those two answers. Change your send day from Wednesday to Sunday in September, and the entire year follows. Nothing to drag, nothing to renumber, nothing to fix in December when the weeks stop lining up.
📊 What You Can Track
- Sent, bounced, and delivered
- Opens and open rate
- Clicks and click rate
- Click-to-open rate
- Unsubscribes and unsubscribe rate
- Spam complaints
- Conversions and conversion rate
- Revenue and revenue per email delivered
- Topic, subject line, preview text, primary CTA, goal, and audience segment
Every rate is calculated against delivered, not sent, so the numbers mean what you think they mean.
🔁 Resend Tracking, Built In
This is the part most trackers skip.
When you resend to the people who didn't open, you get a full block for it: the resend date, a separate subject line, how many you sent to, opens, clicks, and unsubscribes. Your resend open rate is measured against the resend audience instead of your whole list, so it tells you something true.
Then you get a combined open rate and combined click rate, so you can see what the campaign did once both sends are counted.
It also shows you the cost. Resends drive unsubscribes, and the summary breaks out exactly how many came from resends instead of hiding them in a total.
One small thing that will save you: paste the original subject line into the resend column and the cell turns red. Same subject twice reads as a glitch in someone's inbox, not a second chance.
📈 The Summary That Tells You What to Repeat
At the top of the sheet, a year to date block updates as you fill it in.
- Your blended open rate, click rate, and click-to-open rate
- Your best open rate week and your best click rate week
- Your highest revenue week
- Extra opens and extra clicks your resends actually won you
- How many unsubscribes those resends cost
- Total conversions, total revenue, and revenue per email delivered
By week ten you can point at a row and say "that one, do that again."
